Police conducts public order action in Bucharest

[nineoclock.ro] Over 3,700 people were asked to provide identification papers, 2,700 cars were checked and over 2,100 fines worth RON 388,690 were handed out, while 93 drivers were left without a licence and 77 drivers were left without their registration documents during a wide operation on Friday, under the coordination of the General Romanian Police Inspectorate.

The action, which took place on Friday between 3 p.m. and 11 p.m., gathered officers from the traffic police, the public order and fraud police, along with traffic police crews from the counties of Calarasi, Dambovita, Giurgiu, Prahova and Teleorman. Besides the 600 police agents involved, representatives of the Community Police, the Financial Guard and the Consumer Protection Office also took part in the operation.

The main purpose of the action was to assure public order by preventing and fighting street crime order and to check whether traffic rules are respected.

From the over 3,700 people asked to provide identification papers, over 250 were taken to police precincts, according to a press release from the General Police Inspectorate, quoted by Agerpres.

The release also notes that on June 24-25, criminal and fraud investigation police conducted similar operations to prevent and fight street mugging, including pick-pocketing, and counterfeiting attempts. On June 24, police conducted raids in several commercial complexes and found about 4,000 counterfeit products (clothing items, shoes, accessories), worth RON 200,000. Police also started inquires against 14 people, on suspicion of misdeeds such as tax evasion, money laundering and releasing counterfeit products.

Police also found four people who had been sought in relation to other crimes and were evading justice. The four were sought for crimes such as theft, mugging, destruction. During their action, law enforcement officials managed to prevent other crimes such as pick pocketing, mugging, prostitution, theft from a company, the press release says.
