Romania becomes a European Gendarmerie Force member

[romaniapress.com] Romania, by the Romanian Gendarmerie, became a full
member of the European Gendarmerie Force (EUROGENDFOR) on Wednesday, a
release to Agerpres announced.

The event took place on the occasion of the High Level
Interdepartmental Committee (CIMIN) held in Portugal. The unilateral
declaration of Romania’s joining the EUROGENDFOR was signed by
inspector general of the Romanian Gendarmerie Gen. Costica Silion, the
release said.

The EUROGENDFOR general staff drills called EGEX 08 are also being
held at the same time with the CIMIN meeting, with the event being also
attended by three Romanian gendarme officers having command positions
in the Romanian Gendarmerie’s Inspectorate General.

‚On this occasion, the representatives of the EUROGENDFOR member
states will visit the School of Officers of the Portuguese Republican
National Guard based in Coimbra, the institution that hosts the EGEX
08. The drills contribute to the development of the capability to lead
and plan international operations and train command units that should
carry out complex police actions as part of the international crisis
management missions under European Union command‘, the release said.

The EUROGENDFOR was established in Sept. 2004 by the common will
of Spain, France, Italy, the Netherlands and Portugal, which are EU
member states having police forces with a military status, able to
carry out public security and judicial police missions.
