New Europol chief says he’s working on Russia pact

[pr-inside.com] THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AP) – The new director of Europol says the European Union crime fighting agency is negotiating a cooperation agreement with Russia to help crack down on organized crime.
Robert Wainwright says the pact will allow Russian police and Europol to share information and coordinate investigations.
Russian mobsters are believed to beinvolved in criminal activity throughout Europe, from contract killings and drug running to money laundering.
Wainwright said Wednesday the deal is a priority for Europol and will likely be completed in coming months.
Europol analysts pull together intelligence from police forces across the 27-nation EU, allowing them to spot possible links indicating organized crime in areas such as terrorism or people smuggling.
