Friday the 4th of February was the last meeting day of the Interior Ministers of the largest EU Member States, U.S. Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security , and Attorney General of the United States. The participants discussed security in cyberspace and antiterrorist information policy.
The guest who visited Kraków at the invitation of Jerzy Miller, Minister of interior and Administration of the Republic of Poland, included Brice Hortefeux, French Minister of the Interior, Overseas Territories, Territorial Collectivities and Migration, Thomas de Maiziere, German Minister of Interior, Roberto Maroni, Italian Minister of Interior, Theresa May, Home Secretary and Minister for Women and Equalities of the UK, Eric Holder, U.S. Attorney General, Jane Holl Lute, U.S. Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security, and Antonio Camacho Vizcaino, Spanish State Secretary for Security.
The participants held a discussion on issues proposed by Poland concerning both European and global security threats.
During the first plenary session Ministers exchanged their views on and experiences in actions taken by governments to provide security in cyberspace, putting particular emphasis on the necessity of identifying major threats and actions that need to be taken in the area of international cooperation to prevent and fight those threats.
The second plenary session regarded preventive action integrated in the system of communication with the society in the case of a terrorist incident.
The meeting provided an opportunity to share views on issues important to institutions and services responsible for internal security. The meeting gave the Ministers a possibility of specifying the details of further cooperation and was an important component of the implementation of foreign policy within the competencies of the Ministry of Interior and Administration. The meeting also contributed to Polish preparations for taking over Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second semester of 2011.
The conclusions reached during the conference panels will be used in strategic planning and development of actions to be taken by Poland in the area of cyberspace security. Moreove, antiterrorist information policy solutions in place in other EU countries and the United States will be used to set objectives of new strategies in Poland.
Other topics discussed at the conference included internal security in terms of migration and asylum policy. Ministers reaffirmed their readiness to join their efforts to tackle the existing problems.
Minister Jerzy Miller attended bilateral meetings with his counterparts from the UK, United States and Germany.

G6, which is an informal internal security initiative, has been operating since 2003. It includes Interior Ministers from six EU Member States, i.e. Germany, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Spain and Poland. A representative of the United States also takes part in G6 meetings.
