Pakistan: Electronic surveillance system in city soon

KARACHI: Police have identified 164 locations in the metropolis for installation of electronica1ly interfaced CCTV cameras. The electronic surveillance system, with a total of 900 cameras, is expected to be completed within six months. This was disclosed to a visiting delegation of National Management College at a briefing held at the CPO. The briefing was held by IGP Sindh and attended by senior police officials. It was also informed to the delegation that video analytic software like live search, NPR, facial recognition, virtual tripwires, motion detection and shape base detection are some of the features of electronic surveillance system for Karachi. The delegation was further informed about ongoing e-policing project with special reference to some new initiates being undertaken. “Police have planned to computerise and provide online connectivity within and outside the department that include 200 video cameras network for traffic regulation, centralised call centre for police helpline and FM Radio Station”, added DIGP Headquarters Sindh during his presentation to the delegation.
