Train from Hell to Gorleben again

Folks, for the time being this could be the last time you have the opportunity to participate in one of the most impressive acts of eco-resistance in Europe. The Train from Hell is gearing up to start its infernal voyage again. Local activists welcome solidarity from abroad very much.

Rumors go that the train will already start at Wednesday from La Hague in France. This way they hope to outsmart activists, who will be in full force in the Wendland area in the weekend. If the train doesn’t get stopped too much on the way there, it could already arrive at Dannenberg endstation on Friday. There the evil load is transferred to trucks, to make the last 19 kilometers to the storage in Gorleben.

This time there are preparations for the usual methods, including the ’schottern‘ that was introduced last year (= break through police lines at as many places as possible and start removing the stones carrying the rail tracks). There will also be many camps for activists to gather. One of them, near Dahlenburg, has been declared illegal (but this is being fought in court, and anyway nobody cares). The whole village of Metzingen has declared to be open as camp for activists and in fact most farms and houses in the area are involved and sympathize with the resistance. General call is to try to get into the area preferably on Thursday already, but later is also welcome. Friday-night there will be the traditional ‚backbord‘ demonstration in Lunenburg (where the train arrives to change tracks to Dannenberg) which might coincide with the arrival of the train.

Big traditional demo is on Saturday at 12:30 at Dannenberg, and special resistance programs are at many places in the region before and during…

There will be a camp and blockade at the start of the route in France near Valognes: http://valognesstopcastor.noblogs.org/

And another camp/blockade in Southern Germany near the bordercrossing http://www.castor-suedblockade.de/

Interestingly the decree suspending basic civil rights (like to gather in the vicinity of the rail tracks or roads in the area) only is valid from the 26th on, so the train might arrive before that…

This transport will be the last for the time being because the intermediary storage will be filled to the maximum after this load. Awaiting the construction of underground storage which hopefully never will be, because that would make way for much more place for storage. The radiation nowadays is already so high that unallowed levels of radiation are being measured far away from the storage in public areas. Some of the police unions are demanding therefore that the transport be canceled, as their personnel is getting unhealthy amounts of radiation while protecting the transport.

Police will be active in the area with 19.000 men and women, they have announced earlier this week. They also announced that the will be ‚less tolerant‘ against farmers blocking the roads with tractors, as this caused so much problems last time that some riot cops had to stand somewhere in the woods for 24 hours without being relieved and only chocolate to eat. They might do that with helicopters this time….
