[earthtimes.org] Athens – Authorities in Greece detained 146,000 illegal immigrants, most of whome came from Turkey, altogether in 2008, the Interior Ministry said Wednesday. In addition, 2,211 people traffickers were arrested and brought before the courts.
The issue of illegal immigration is a priority for Greece, according to the Foreign Ministry in Athens.

The Federal Ministry of the Interior of Germany offered the Belarusian militia to study their experience of providing security during the mass events.
[charter97.org] “Issues on training militia officers in public security in the Federal Republic of Germany will be discussed during a visit of the delegation of the German Interior Ministry to Minsk,” Interfax information agency learnt from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus.
“Questions of organizing a training seminar for Belarusian militia officers will be discussed in Minsk. The German party offered to hold the seminar in Germany,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.
According to the source of the agency, a delegation of the Federal Ministry of the Interior of Germany heading by the commander of Security Alert Jürgen Schubert.

British government has introduced an updated version of its
counter-terrorism strategy CONTEST. In CONTEST 2, there is a stronger
focus on training civilians, such as shop and hotel owners, to
intervene in case of a terrorist threat. This might not be an actual
attack but any act that undermines the belief in democracy, human
rights, free speech and tolerance. Home Secretary Jacqui Smith rejected
criticism that calls these measures ’snooping’.
The strategy, which consists of the four strands
Prevent, Pursue, Protect and Prepare, will also try to work more on the
prevent section, particularly aiming to keep Muslims from radicalising.
In an article to the Observer, Prime Minister Gordon Brown defends the

suspected of links to international terrorism as well as aiding and
abetting illegal immigration are being investigated by Italian police,
after raids carried out on Thursday in various Italian cities.
The raids were carried out in properties around the northern cities
of Vicenza, Venice, Padova, Brescia, Como, Cuneo and Trento, the

[pr-inside.com] THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AP) – The new director of Europol says the European Union crime fighting agency is negotiating a cooperation agreement with Russia to help crack down on organized crime.
Robert Wainwright says the pact will allow Russian police and Europol to share information and coordinate investigations.
Russian mobsters are believed to beinvolved in criminal activity throughout Europe, from contract killings and drug running to money laundering.

French police arrested up to 200 migrants on Tuesday in a major swoop in the Channel port of Calais, from where thousands try to cross to Britain every year.

Around 300 French officers cordoned off a wooded area known as "the jungle", home to hundreds of migrants, mostly from Iraq, Afghanistan and Eritrea. They seized 150 people there and 33 at motorway rest stops outside the city.
A further 11 were arrested in the nearby town of Saint Omer. The three-hour raid came two days before Eric Besson, the immigration minister, was due to visit Calais for talks on the situation following complaints from local politicians, who say they can no longer bear the brunt of the problem alone. große Unternehmen benutzen in ihren Fertigungsanlagen Techniken des
Internets.

war die die industrielle Welt noch übersichtlich: Da gab es in der
Automobilindustrie, der Gas- und Wasserwirtschaft oder bei den
Energieerzeugern eine Steuerung der Anlagen und die Verwaltung des
jeweiligen Unternehmens hat diese Steuerung unterstützt – mit
Karteikarten, Aktenordnern und der Rohrpost. Das alles war beschwerlich
und vielfach umständlich aber gleichzeitig auch sicher.

concealing shoulder numbers as "unacceptable".
Nick Hardwick,

said he would appear before the Home Affairs Select Committee as the
fallout surrounding allegations into the use of police force at the G20
protests grew more acrimonious.

concerns" about front-line supervision of officers at this month’s

[spiegel.de] Ein Sieg im Kampf gegen Kinderpornografie? Familienministerin Ursula von der Leyen feiert die Unterzeichnung des Sperrlisten-Vertrags zwischen BKA und Internet-Providern. Kritiker werten das Abkommen ganz anders: Als Wahlkampf, Augenwischerei und potentiell schädlich.
Der Vertrag ist in trockenen Tüchern, die Rechtsbasis dafür soll erst am nächsten Mittwoch geschaffen werden – Ursula von der Leyens Projekt, den Zugriff auf kinderpornografische Inhalte über das Internet zu erschweren, scheint auf bestem Wege. In spätestens sechs Monaten sollen Internet-Surfer beim Anwählen von Web-Seiten, die sich auf den vom Bundeskriminalamt definierten Sperrlisten finden, stattdessen ein Stoppschild präsentiert bekommen – außer, sie "umfahren" es. [stern.de] Separatistische Gewalttäter wie die baskische ETA haben 2008 in Europa weit mehr Anschläge verübt als islamistische Terroristen. Insgesamt ist die Zahl terroristischer Angriffe in der EU im Vergleich zum Vorjahr gesunken.

Police Department has been given funds amounting to €56,000 by the
European Commission to increase its capabilities in the effective
border control at the external borders of the EU, in line with the
parameters stipulated in the Schengen Convention.
The eight
month project has seen a number of experts from the Italian SIRENE
Division and the International Police Cooperation Service delivering
training in Malta to local officers.
Training given to Police
officers, especially the SIRENE operators, was aimed to ensure that
they have the required technical, operational and administrative

Fahnder aus dem "Arbeitsbereich Internet Recherche" des Landeskriminalamts (LKA) Baden-Württemberg haben nach eigenen Angaben
(PDF-Datei) weltweit 9000 Ermittlungsverfahren wegen Verbreitung von
Kinderpornografie veranlasst. In Deutschland allein seien im Rahmen der
Mitte 2008 aufgenommenen Ermittlungen mehr als 1000 Internetanschlüsse
überwacht worden. Diese Zahl hätte höher ausfallen können, da viele
Provider erst seit dem 1. Januar 2009 der Verpflichtung zur Vorhaltung
